Why Norway? Norway recently hit the front pages of newspapers worldwide due to the horrible terror attack in July. This was a one of a kind event that shocked the nation as well as the international community. Norway is considered one of the safest countries in the world, and although the nation is still mourning its dead, we are happy to welcome visitors. We are as proud as ever of our nation's openness, democracy, tolerance and equality. Sights you might want to see while in Oslo: Domkirken - our main church where there's still an abundance of fresh flowers to commemorate the dead. The Viking Ships, the Fram Museum and the Folk Museum, all in Bygdøy. The Vigeland park in Frogner. The Royal Castle downtown (near Oslo Concert Hall where Satyrday night's show is taking place). Akershus Festning - our old fort, and nearby Aker Brygge, the old port turned into modern shopping mall and restaurant/entertainment area right on the waterfront and witth beautiful views to the old fort and ferries that go to and fro the many islands in our fjord. The Holmenkollen Ski Jump and Frognerseteren Cafe with magnificent views over the city. You might also wish to try the delicious flavours of our own "Kaffebrenneriet" - the coffee house chain that will make sure that Starbucks never will be established here. Everything conveniently located close to downown. Norway is also known for its
spectacular scenery and the magic northern light. You will need to get out of
Oslo for this, but do it if you have the chance, it is guaranteed to be the
experience of a lifetime. |
